Film Production 3D Scanning Services: Props, Set Dec, VFX, Construction & Costume
Film Production 3D Scanning Services – We have worked in the UK film industry for many years, and have produced high accuracy 3D scans and 3D prints for many well known film productions. The 3D scans we produce are used for various applications such as: prop making, set decoration, visual effects (VFX), costume effects and set construction elements. In addition to 3D scanning services, we also provide ‘digital to physical’ prop making services, using both 3D printing and CNC milling technologies.
A typical film production application might be a 3D scan of a scale model or maquette, which has been sculpted by a production sculptor. We are then able to 3D scan the sculpture (or other object) in order to produce an identical 3D digital model. We then import the digital 3D scan model into ZBrush (3D digital sculpting software) in order to make any final adjustments. The 3D digital model is then re-scaled to the required physical output size, and finally converted into a physical model using either CNC milling or 3D printing. The productions creative and prop making teams then handle the final physical model finishing stages to make it ready for going on set.
The above and below images show some 3D scans we did for the art department on the last ‘Tomb Raider’ production (a Warner Brothers production). We were retained to provide a variety of different 3D scans (in studio and on location). Some 3D scans were used for VFX sequences as above, whilst others were used for producing actual sets via CNC milling. Here is one memorable scene that shows the use of our 3D scans for the Himiko coffin opening sequence. A big thank you once again to Simon, Allen and John for their continued support on the production. A great action adventure movie not to be missed!
